Turbogas

ABOUT US

Turbogas was set up in November 1994 with the aim of developing the Tapada do Outeiro natural gas combined cycle power station.

The construction of this innovative project played a key role in the introduction of natural gas in Portugal. At the time of its full commercial operation, this plant consumed 70% of the natural gas imported into the country, making the economic sustainability of the gas pipeline possible.

Today the plant plays a crucial role in the energy transition, providing a back-up energy supply for the national electricity system characterized by the enormous volatility of renewable energy generation. With its flexible dispatch and capacity to provide system services, namely autonomous start-up, it contributes to maintaining the security of supply of the national electricity grid.
